Damaged Chiva Restored at Swoyambhu East Stairs

Every Chiva restored is a heritage revived for future generations. It is of great pleasure to report that a Chiva damaged and fallen apart in the stairs of Swoyambhu has been repaired and restored at the original place besides the eastern stairs.

Chiva after restoration

The activities done by the Chiva Chaitya Organization included among other things:

  • Coordination with Federation of Swoyambhu Development Committees, Ward office and local community
  • Finding and coordinating with the family who had established this Chiva
  • Finding parts of the Chiva from stores
  • Repairing the Chiva parts and making missing parts like the pinnacle
  • Re-instating  at the original place

The Chiva was missing at the place
Parts needed to be searched and matched with the Chiva and missing parts needed to be constructed

The family performed rituals as per the Buddhist tradition on the occasion of restorations.

The CCO(Chiva Chaitya Organization) took the initiative to carry out all the activities including raising necessary funds. It has been a great experience and gave immense satisfaction to see a heritage preserved and community engaged.

Dibya Laxmi Bajracharya and family who have established this Chiva were extremely happy and they performed ritual at the Chiva (after restoration) to give 'life' to the Chiva.

We would like to thank all the stake holders including Swoyambhu Dev Committee, Ward Office and people from the community. We would like to thank all individuals and WMF for supporting us in various ways in our work for promotion and restoration of these unique heritage of Kathmandu Valley. And special thanks to the Bajracharya family for showing their enthusiasm and support.
