Chiva Chaitya Organization wins Unesco 2022 Award of Merit

Works of Chiva Chiatya Organization wins UNESCO 2022 Award of Merit (Unesco Asia Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation 2022) - declared today November 26, 2022 by Unesco Bangkok Office in an winners announcement event.






चिभा चैत्य संस्थाको सम्पदा संरक्षण कार्य युनेस्को २०२२ Award of Merit बाट सम्मानित भएको छ। यस Award बाट हामीलाई चिभा चैत्य जस्ता सम्पदा संरक्षण तथा प्रबर्धनमा लाग्न अझ बढि हौसला मिलेको छ। यस दौरान हामीलाई सहयोग गर्नु हुने सबै लाई धन्यबाद दिन चाहन्छौ। युनेस्को, डब्ल्यु एम एफ, टोल बासी, वडा पदाधिकारीहरु तथा भौतिक तथा अभौतिक तरिका बाट हामीलाई सहयोग गर्नु हुने सबै धन्याबद का पात्र हुन। हाम्रो बिशेष धन्याबाद अन्जिर मान सिं बनिया, सान्त मान शाक्य तथा आर्खिटेक्ट किरण जोशी हुन जसको सहयोग हाम्रो कार्य सफल हुनुमा बिशेष योगदान पुगेको छ।


It is our honor to thank UNESCO and the Award Committee for this recognition. We are very much motivated and encouraged by this award to continue our work in attending unattended heritage sites in the Kathmandu Valley.

We also want to thank community members, ward officials and all our supporters, partners and last but not the least World Monuments Fund and Hunghsi Chao, Program Manager. 

Also, we want to take this opportunity to thank Anjir Man Singh Bania, Santa Man Shakya and Architect Kiran Joshi whose field level works have been phenomenal for our success.

CCO is community-based organization and look forward to building broader partnership with local and international organizations. 

We are very excited because of this award and we believe this award has added attention to the heritage of Kathmandu Valley.

Chiva Nyas Puja Done at Dhokatole

Chiva Puja is a process which let us remind ourselves  that Chiva itself is not just a mere monument but a living shrine and carries lots of philosophical and spiritual values of Buddhist teachings. Chiva at Dhokatole, Ward 19, Kathmandu needed maintenance due to theft and wear and tear. Chiva Chaitya Organization took the initiative and with the help of community, ward restored the Chiva in 2021. Now a Chiva Puja is done to mark the completion of the restoration as well as to revive the intangible heritage in the form of elaborate puja to make the Chiva a living heritage. Establishing a Chiva passes through different phases namely 1) consecration of the ground upon which the Chaitya is to be erected. There Sūtrap ātana, where a thread makes a Maṇḍala with positions of total 121 deities 2) Pādasthāpana (laying of foundation) is done with specific rules using bricks, hollow spaces etc. 3) then bricklayers lay the foundation. Chiva Maintained at Talibi MasanGalli

  There are two Chivas at Talibi MasanGalli which required maintenance. Recognizing Chivas as our important heritage community took interest to maintain and make the Chiva safe with fence. CCO(Chiva Chaitya Organization) is proud to be part of the process and help communities on their behalf to work in heritage preservation. After Restoration Chivas requiring maintenance Community Members Took Initiative to Save our Heritage Chiva secured with fence We would like to thank Rabindra Dai, Chetan Dai, Linod Dai etc from the tole and ward. Special appreciation to Maitri Man Kansakar Dai for taking the initiative and supporting the works.
