Chiva Chaitya Launches Two Books on Stone Inscriptions

Two volumes Collection of Stone Inscriptions Related to Chivas series, volume 2 by Epigraph Padmadhar Tuladhar and volume 3 by Siddhiratna Shakya were launched on Aug 1, 2026. 

At the launch of its Collection of Stone Inscriptions Related to Chivas series, Chiva Chaitya Organization (CCO) highlighted the importance of documenting and preserving these invaluable records of the Kathmandu Valley’s cultural heritage. Stone inscriptions associated with Chivas preserve names, dates, acts of devotion, remembrance, religious beliefs, and social practices that might otherwise have been lost to history. Since many Chivas were established by ordinary individuals and families, these inscriptions offer a unique glimpse into the lives, aspirations, and faith of people beyond the histories of kings and rulers. Spanning different historical periods and written in scripts and languages including Licchavi, Nepal Lipi, Nepalbhasa, and Sanskrit, they collectively contribute to our understanding of more than fifteen centuries of the Valley’s religious, social, linguistic, and cultural history. Through the publication of this collection, CCO seeks to make these important historical records accessible to scholars and the wider public, while also drawing attention to the urgent need to protect inscriptions that face deterioration, neglect, encroachment, and possible loss.

The event was graced by acting Mayor, Kathmandu Municipality Sunita Dangol, Ward 25 Chief Rajesh Dangol, Director General, Department of Archaeology Saubhagya Pradhananga, Head of office, Unesco Kathmandu Jaco du Toit.

The event was conducted at historical Bhaskardev Sanskarit Keshchandra Mahavihar in Kathmandu.

Capturing Heritage: CCO talks about importance of documentation in heritage preservation

Chiva Chaitya Organization(CCO) had the chance to speak at Himalayan College of Engineering at Lalitpur. CCO highlighted the importance of documentation in heritage preservation and shared experiences. The work being done by students of Department of Architecture in documentation of heritage at Lalitpur(Guita, Bhinchhen Baha etc) under the Conservation Studio is a very commendable job and will have profound impact on heritage preservation.  On the day, it was our privilege to hear from Padma Sundar Joshi Sir about the details of the Hiti system.
