In a significant step towards preserving and promoting the traditional water heritage of the Kathmandu Valley, Chiva Chaitya Organization (CCO), Rotary Club Yela and eArts Nepal have entered into a collaborative partnership to launch a creative and community-focused initiative centered on the historic Hiti (stone spout) systems.
As part of the program, participating artists and youth will explore and depict Hitis through drawing and painting, capturing both their architectural beauty and cultural significance. These creative works will later be showcased in a public art exhibition, offering a fresh perspective on these ancient water systems. The initiative also includes guided Hiti tours, allowing participants and the public to experience these heritage sites firsthand and understand the vital role they have played in the urban history of the Valley.
This collaborative effort is made possible with generous support from the World Monuments Fund (WMF) and the U.S. Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP). Rotary Club Yela will also have important financial contribution and also in logistic support.
Speaking at the agreement signing, representatives from the three organizations emphasized the importance of collaborative approaches in heritage preservation. By blending community participation, youth engagement, and artistic expression, the initiative aims to foster a deeper connection between people and place.
More details about the upcoming activities, including artist call-outs, tour schedule, and exhibition dates, will be announced soon.
Stay tuned as we bring new energy and creativity to the stories of our living water heritage.
